Warranty & Technical Support
Effective Date: July 2026Our relationship with you doesn't end the moment we hand over the hardware or deploy the code. Electronics can be unpredictable, and software can have the occasional bug. This page explains exactly what kind of after-sales support you can expect from SMB Robotics, so there are absolutely no grey areas.
1. Standard Hardware Components (DOA Warranty)
DIY electronics are incredibly sensitive components. A single reversed wire, an accidental short circuit, or plugging in a 12V supply to a 3.3V pin can permanently destroy a microcontroller in milliseconds. Because of this inherent fragility, standard off-the-shelf components purchased from our store carry a Dead on Arrival (DOA) warranty only.
This means: if you open the package and the component is genuinely non-functional right out of the box (it was never powered on by you and shows no signs of physical damage caused during your handling), you must report it to us within 3 calendar days of delivery with clear photo or video evidence. We will then replace the defective component at no additional cost to you.
What is NOT Covered
- Components burnt due to reverse polarity, over-voltage, or incorrect wiring by the user.
- Physical damage caused by dropping, bending pins, or improper soldering technique.
- Water damage, exposure to extreme heat, or electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage from handling without proper grounding.
- Normal wear and tear on consumable items such as batteries, USB cables, and breadboard jumper wires.
- Components used in a manner inconsistent with their published datasheet specifications.
2. Custom Project Remediation (Bug Fixing & Hardware Repair)
When we build a custom IoT dashboard, a robotic arm, an AI-powered application, or any bespoke engineering system for you, we guarantee that it will function exactly according to the technical specifications we mutually agreed upon during the initial consultation and scope-locking phase.
If you discover a genuine software bug in our code, a hardware malfunction caused by our assembly, or a feature that doesn't behave as documented in the project handover, we provide a 7-Day Free Remediation Period starting from the date of final delivery. During this window, our engineering team will:
- Debug and fix any software errors or logic issues in the code we wrote.
- Repair or replace any hardware component that malfunctioned due to our assembly or soldering error.
- Re-test the entire system to ensure everything works as intended before handing it back to you.
All of this is done at absolutely zero additional cost to you. We take full responsibility for the quality of our engineering.
What is NOT Covered Under Remediation
- Issues caused by the client's own modifications to the source code, wiring, or hardware after delivery.
- Damage from power surges, water exposure, or environmental factors beyond our control.
- Feature additions, design changes, or scope expansions that were not part of the original agreed-upon project requirements. These are treated as new billable work.
- Third-party hardware failures (e.g., a sensor from another manufacturer failing independently of our system design).
3. FYP Mentorship & Academic Support
For university students who commission a Final Year Project, our support goes well beyond just handing you a circuit board and some code. Our FYP mentorship package typically includes:
- Hardware Assembly Guidance: We walk you through how the circuit is designed, how each sensor connects, and why specific components were chosen.
- Code Walkthrough: We explain the software architecture, key functions, and logic flow so you genuinely understand how the system works. This isn't just about passing your Viva; it's about actually learning.
- Technical Documentation: We provide comprehensive project documentation including circuit diagrams, block diagrams, flowcharts, and code comments that meet standard university submission requirements.
- Viva Preparation Tips: We help you anticipate the types of technical questions your professors are likely to ask and prepare confident, clear answers.
Please note that long-term maintenance, major code rewrites, or significant hardware modifications requested after the project has been submitted and your academic evaluation is complete are considered separate engagements and may be billed accordingly.
4. Extended Support & Maintenance Contracts
For industrial clients and businesses that require ongoing technical support beyond the standard remediation period, we offer optional Extended Support & Maintenance Contracts. These can include periodic software updates, remote troubleshooting, hardware health checks, and priority response times. Contact us to discuss a support plan tailored to your operational needs.
